My Two Cents
by Scott Starr
February 1, 2007
Quick Commentary today. If you are a regular reader, you know whats going on right now. All I can say is, no matter how bad things get, no matter how low you think you are, hard work and sacrifice will pay off in the long run. Next week, I will do what will probably be my last commentary on this site for a while. It will have its own page, entitled, Final Farewell. I will talk about my indy experiences, the numerous thank yous that are owed to everyone, and what the future holds for Scott Starr or Wes Adams.
See ya next week!

Oops, its been a month. Oh well, what can you do? I'm glad to see FUSION develop a little following at the Groove nightclub in Hattiesburg. All of these guys are working very hard to get themselves over. And believe me, it's hard to get over in this place. Expect to see more FUSION Fighters take trips to Tennessee in the coming weeks. This new class of workers will be travelling more and learning more about the business than previous crops of workers. I don't really have anything to rant about, cause I havent't seen or been to a TURD show in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time! Hahaha. Its always fun to get that out there. Well thats all for now. Maybe next time I'll have something to complain about!

Well if anything, at least it wasn't 10 months this time! If you've checked the schedule board, you will see that FUSION is turning into a very busy venture for me and Blaine! And the best part: We are about to get even BUSIER! Thats right, keep an eye open for FUSION as we take 2007 to a whole new level. And HOPEFULLY set a higher standard for work ethic inside the ring in Mississippi. I was interested to see a few of our "competitors" at our first event at the Groove and even more suprised that nobody tried any monkey business. Truthfully, there's a couple of guys over there that aren't that bad. But we don't use guys that "aren't that bad". Our guys are good. DAMN good. We take ourselve a lot more seriously that some of these so called weekend warriors. Thats why we are in the Groove, training and busting our asses on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and usually Wednesday nights as well. We're not sitting at home on Monday nights with our King of the Hill boxers on watching RAW. We're training our asses off in hopes of actually BEING on RAW someday. (And by all means, rip on me for that last statement all you want but if thats not you're ultimate goal then get the hell out of the business!) Not that we don't tape it of course. But anyways-that being said: our training class is not easy. Its not like these guys just jump in the ring and start wrestling (like most places do). They are working out, doing their squats, pushups, drills, etc. And if you don't believe me, you have an open invitation to come watch them work out. And if you really, really want to test yourself, then I suggest you join them!

Good lord for the love of pete don't ask me how the heck I went over 10 months without a commentary update. Cause I sure don't have an answer! Thats what a real job will do to you. Unfortunately, thats also what causes you to miss bookings, have promoters forget about you, and you take your eye off the ball. So far in 2006 I have had exactly 4 matches, which is extremely sad. Even sadder is the fact that there have been exactly 0 road trips with my good old buddy, Ronnie McDidher. That is going to change from here on out, as I have several trips lined up in the event up me losing my "real job". Check the schedule page for show dates. Also, for those interested, myself and Kurt King are running the FUSION Fight Academy in Hattiesburg, for those wanting to train and get better. We have been training 3 days a week, and are working 2 shows a month in The Groove every other Friday. Also a new crop of rookies, Kool Jay Steel, Brett "The Hammer" Hughes, Krymsynn, and Sven Gally have been looking extremely bright. Anyways, fellas, I'm back, and have no plans to go anywhere this time. Looks like indy wrestling is stuck with this WHINER!

December 21, 2005

Well, hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is going to have a great holiday season. Hopefully 2006 will see some MAJOR and much needed improvements on the southern independent wrestling scene, but I doubt it. Why should this year be any different from all the rest. It seems as though the market has really slowed down the past year, with fewer shows being run than ever before in Mississippi. I wonder if the trend will reverse this year. I don't know much about north MS (Tupelo area, and such) but down here there's nothing. Well with the exception of

The Land of Misfit Wrestlers-and I'll give you two guesses as to where that is. I strongly disagree with running wrestling just for the sake of running wrestling. IE, the stuff done in Columbia and Hattiesburg, MS. To steal a quote from Joe Kane, "Turd Wrestling". But I digress. I'm guilty of working their shows in the past, either just as a favor, or just to do something. Well, that will change for me in 2006. I have lucked into a weekend job that pays REALLY well and will make me a little "spare change" on the side. And its fun and I enjoy it. I dont think I'll be cutting out on them for a crappy $20 booking either. Well that was my rant for the day. Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year. Make Love, Not Crappy Wrestling.

Nov 23, 2005

First of all let me just say how sad I am to hear about Eddie Guerrero's passing. That man was a true wrestler and I was priveleged to be able to watch him live on several occassions, both in WCW and WWE. He will be sadly missed.

Now, onto the commentary. If you read Match of the Month, then you read about me vs. Nick Wonder. If you enjoyed reading it, then imagine being in the match. It was incredible. Everything went the way it was supposed too. Now you're probably wondering where that match occured and for who. Well it happened in Hattiesburg for a promotion for which whom I will never work again. I whored myself out just to have a match and I regret it immensely. Even though it was a great match, this promoter didn't deserve to have it on his card. I was a last minute fill in for Mikey Webb. When I heard that Mikey couldn't be there I called this jerkoff and offered my services. He stuttered and stammered and passed the buck to his "booker". I told him fine, whatever he wanted, it didn't matter to me. The next day he calls and says he did me a favor and put me on the card. He did me a favor. Gee thanks. Anyways, this promoter is a known mark (he has been to shows that I have worked and dropped money at my gimmick table). He skirted the issue of money, and knew what my standard asking price was, but he said he'd take care of me, and the show was 10 minutes away from home. Well a pretty decent crowd turns out, and this promoter decides to sell poloroids of the babyfaces for $5 apiece. I went out for him and sold this guy at least $50-60 worth of pictures. Also remember that half the card this guy didn't have to pay. At the end of the night he hands me an envelope with $20 in it. When I questioned it, he says "I always heard you were a whiner". I told him to his face and the booker that if not letting promoters take advantage of me and standing up for myself makes me a whiner, then I'm a whiner. Yes I have a reputation for being a hardass when it comes to being paid to wrestle and I don't appreciate my hard work being taken for granted. This idiot had a lockerroom full of guys who are just marks for themselves just want to show out in front of there family and friends. There were just a few decent workers in the dressing room. He knows he doesn't have to pay them. And he assumes he doesn't have to take care of anyone, because they can be replaced. You got a guy who has 5 years in the business, and I mean business, not just working crappy indies, been to Memphis, been all over the NWA, been invited to camps run by both TNA and WWE and you don't take advantage of it. I don't want to sound like I'm bragging, but I have been blessed in my wrestling career and have experienced more in a year than most ever will and for that, I am eternally grateful. I'm not going to get into an issue about drawing money. I can't say I put one butt in that seat. But we got over and people will be coming back assuming we'll be there. But we won't be. I sold this guy pictures, and I racked up money on my gimmick table. I don't have to say I draw money anywhere, even if I do or not.  At least use my experiences to help you out, thats what I'm there for.  But to this ungrateful idiot: I hope at your next show the little midget with the fake Kane mask can sell you as many poloroids as I did. I hope the guy with the lame ass mask and wrestles in sweat pants can work as good as me and Nick and Jeff did. I even had to rough up a couple of these idiots because they decided to trot out there (as heels) while the babyfaces were taking pictures. They just don't get it. And when I complained to the "booker" Riki Idol about all this. He didn't do anything. Just sat there. Well I say this to Riki Idol: Shame on you. For not sticking up for one of the boys, and for not taking leadership and teaching these idiots about the business. You claim to have been wrestling for 13 years-ACT LIKE IT. And I'm calling him out by name because he is one of the boys. I actually like the guy, I have known him for years but he needs a reality check. Are you there to make money, and teach the younger generation how to work? Or are you there just because you're a mark for wrestling too? As far as the promoter goes, I've washed my hands with him. You're going to have some pissed of fans when Nick and I don't come back. Mississippi indy wrestling is DYING a painful death, and it is sad. I don't have the capital to start my own indy but I don't know if MS can even be salvaged. I don't know if it's even worth salvaging. The one indy with the best talent (IPWA) doesn't even draw! The New South shows are enjoyable because there are always fans there and the promoter always takes great care of me because I take care of him. Now so called promoters think that they can piss on everybody just cause a few select marks don't understand that they are being taken advantage of. But don't take my word for it. Cause I'm just a WHINER.

Oct. 3

Welcome to the first My Two Cents on the new site. Several reasons for the new site, one is that the name of the other one was just too long! Well, that and it was time for a change. So many things needed changing that it would have been wise to just start over. Wrestling has been kind of on the backburner for a few weeks, due to Katrina. I know how bad it has been for everyone, as I have seen first hand. It really doesn't seem appropriate to whine and moan about the abmyssal state of indy wrestling in some places when there are people out there who have lost literally everything. But things will be back to normal soon, and we will all be at each others throats again, and me and Ronnie McDidher will be wreaking havoc playing critic on indy shows! Glad to say that October will be a VERY busy month for me, just check the Schecdule out for more info. So far in November, nothing! But that's indy wrestling for you. Well, hope you enjoyed this brief, no bridge burning commentary (sad isn't it). I will post more after the All Pro Wrestling event this Saturday in McComb!
